A man caught carrying a samurai sword around Chippenham has been given ‘words of advice’.

Police raced to reports of a male holding a large blade in the Park Lane area at around 6pm on Monday evening (1 November).

Officers were seen searching the area, approaching a number of members of the public asking if they had sighted the individual.

One local resident told Wiltshire 999s they were approached by an officer in Union Road at 6.15pm “asking if I had seen a guy with a sword”.

Wiltshire Police has since confirmed the suspect was located and the weapon was seized, but no arrests were made.

A force spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.50pm yesterday by a member of the public reporting a man walking down Park Lane in Chippenham who appeared to be holding a Samurai style sword.

“He was approached by our officers who took the item from him. He was taken to the local police station and spoken to by officers where words of advice were given.

“No arrests were made and there were no reported threats made to members of the public.”
