A man has been killed by a train on a railway line near Royal Wootton Bassett.
Emergency services were called to the fatal incident a few miles west of the town shortly before 11.30pm yesterday night (Wednesday 7 June).
Wiltshire Police and the British Transport Police (BTP) were tasked to attend the scene, alongside Wiltshire Air Ambulance and local ambulance crews.
Fire crews from Royal Wootton Basset, Cricklade and Swindon also responded to the tragedy, supported by an aerial ladder platform appliance.
A man, who travelled to the location in a car, was pronounced dead by paramedics on their arrival.
A spokesperson for BPT confirmed that death isn’t being treated as suspicious and officers will now prepare a file for the coroner.
Wiltshire 999s understands the vehicle involved was a freight train, rather than a passenger train.
The railway line between Swindon and Bristol Parkway was closed for approximately three hours as 999 personnel worked – reopening at about 2.30am.
