A man from Frome has died following a head-on collision on the A36 at Codford yesterday.

The two vehicle crash happened at around 4.45pm on Thursday, ahead of the heavy snowfall later in the evening, and involved a Saab 9-3 and a Skoda Octavia.

Two other people, a man and woman, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “For reasons currently unknown at this stage, the vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

“Both the male driver of the Saab and the female driver of the Skoda, were taken to Southampton Hospital with serious injuries.

“The man, who is from Frome, was pronounced deceased at hospital several hours later. His family are being supported by a specialist trained family liaison officer and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“The woman, who is 40 and from Salisbury, suffered serious lower body injuries and remains in hospital.”

The A36 was closed for seven hours while Tri-Force Collision Investigation Unit conducted a collision investigation.

We are appealing for anyone who may have information about the collision, as well as anyone who may have dash-cam footage to please get in touch by calling 101 and quote log number 206 of January 31.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
