A man ‘holding a stick’ has been arrested at gunpoint in Swindon overnight.
Police were called to a report of a person brandishing a sword in the Ocotal Way area at around 11.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, 29 May).
Armed police, a dog unit and the National Police Air Service helicopter were deployed.
Shortly after midnight this morning (Thursday), firearms officers detained a man at gunpoint in Farriers Close – a residential street opposite the entrance to Tesco Extra.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said the suspected sword turned out to be a stick.
“The man was initially detained and then released”, they added.
