A man reportedly heard shouting “but I love you” moments before running from police officers who were called to the incident has been arrested.

Wiltshire Police were alerted to the male in Percy Street, Rodbourne, at around 6am this morning by a caller reporting concerns for his welfare.

Officers arrived at the scene a short time later and the man fled the scene. A short foot pursuit ensued before he was detained.

The suspect – a 23-year-old local man – was arrested suspicion of possession of cannabis. He remains in custody.

It’s not clear who he was shouting the words of affection to before the police arrived.
