A man with fishing rods was mistaken for a gunman in Salisbury today (Tuesday).
Police swarmed Bemerton Heath at around 11.30am following reports of a suspect in possession of a firearm.
Officers carried out urgent searches in the area and located a man matching the description.
He was found to be carrying fishing rods, not a rifle as suggested by a 999 caller.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police thanked locals for their support during the operation.
They said: “We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we made the area safe, and for the quick response from the community.”
