A man and his dog have been rescued as a blaze broke out in a Swindon flat.
Emergency services responded to reports of a property fire in Tudor Walk, Walcot, at around 8.40am on Tuesday morning (6 May).
Three fire engines – from Swindon, Westlea and Stratton stations – attended the scene alongside several police officers.
Firefighters forced entry into the building and then rescued a man and his dog.
The man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital for further care. His dog was given oxygen by firefighters using Smokey Paws equipment.
A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said that “six breathing apparatus wearers used a hose reel jet and a main jet” to put out the flames.
The fire is believed to have started accidentally; firefighters had left by 10am.
Raleigh Avenue was closed in both directions by police due to fire engines blocking the road.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that there were no serious injuries and no arrests made. Officers are understood to have remained on site to secure the property.
