A man has died in a devastating house fire in Devizes at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to a property in Ferozeshah Road at around 7pm on Saturday evening (18 January).

A 77-year-old man was found to be unresponsive and despite the best efforts of medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance were in attendance alongside two ambulances and an ambulance operations officer.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Emergency services attended a fire at a residential property shortly before 7pm in Ferozeshah Road, in Devizes on Saturday evening (18/01).

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 77-year-old man sadly died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.”

They added: “Our thoughts are with his family, and we would request that their privacy is respected at this most difficult time.

“There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation by Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.”

The fire service, on Sunday, issued the following statement: “We were called at 6.53pm Saturday evening (18 January) to Ferozeshah Road, Devizes to reports of a property fire.

“Crews from Devizes, Calne and Marlborough attended where two breathing apparatus wearers used one hose reel jet and one main jet to extinguish.

“Our stop came in at 1.19am this morning (19 January).

“The cause is currently under investigation and a fire investigation will continue when it’s safe to do so.”
