A man has been pronounced dead after he fell into a canal in Bradford on Avon.
Emergency services were called to the serious incident near the Canal Trust Cafe, off Frome Road, at around 3pm on Thursday (14 August).
It’s understood the man – aged in his 50s – suffered a medical episode and fell into the canal. He was swiftly rescued from the water and given CPR.
Despite the best efforts of members of the public and first responders, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police confirmed that there are “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding the man’s death.
They added: “Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time”.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 14:56hrs on Thursday 14 August to an incident in Bradford-on-Avon.
“We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, and a critical care car to the scene.”
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a water rescue team from Trowbridge were deployed to the scene, but weren’t required and subsequently stood down.
