A man has been crushed to death by a falling tree in the Wiltshire countryside.
Emergency services were called to the tragic scene off Bowd’s Lane, near Lyneham, at around 11.30am this morning (Tuesday).
Great Western Air Ambulance Charity arrived in a helicopter, while Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended in a critical care car – supporting local ambulance crews.
Despite the best efforts of medics, a man, aged in his 70s, was declared deceased.
“The man’s next of kin has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.
The force confirmed that there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews – from Royal Wootton Bassett and Westlea – to the incident, and remained there until 1.15pm.
South Western Ambulance Service said it sent one double-crewed land ambulance, an air ambulance, an operations officer, and a critical care car to the scene.
