A man is in a critical condition after an incident in a tree on a Swindon housing estate.

999 crews were called to a welfare-related medical emergency in Carmel Walk, near New College in Queens Drive, on Saturday (20 April).

Police vehicles, fire crews and ambulances lined Woodhouse Road and Billborough Drive as first responders attended the scene at about 5.30pm.

A man, aged in his 40s, was reportedly found unresponsive in a tree.

According to witnesses, CPR was administered by emergency services before the casualty was taken into an ambulance and rushed to hospital.

It’s understood Wiltshire Air Ambulance were also called to the scene, but were stood down on their arrival in the skies above.

A local resident spoke of how police officers were seen photographing an item – possibly clothing – high up in a tree and putting the man’s possessions into evidence bags.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police confirmed that the man remains in a critical conditional in hospital.

In a statement, they said: “A man has been taken to hospital following a welfare related incident in Swindon yesterday (20/04).

“At around 5.30pm, officers responded to an incident in Carmel Walk off Woodhouse Road, Swindon.

“A man in his 40s was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, where he remains for treatment.

“There is no risk to the public.”
