A man has been told to keep control of his XL Bully, which is ‘causing fear’ in Calne.
Police officers, along with the dog warden, visited the pet’s owner on 26 October, after he reportedly breached his Community Protection Warning.
The 31-year-old was severed with a Community Protection Notice (CPN) – similar to an ASBO – commanding him to keep his dog under control and supervised at all times.
Action was taken after further concerns that the XL Bully had been seen repeatedly roaming the local area unaccompanied and walking into the road.
It has also been spotted attempting to enter other residents’ homes and causing fear to other members of the public, including a young child.
The CPN, issued by a Wiltshire Council dog warden, on this occasion, has several conditions which must be adhered to. These include:
• Do not allow your dog(s) to stray from your property.
• Ensure your dog(s) does not leave your premises unless under direct supervision of an appropriate adult and under proper control at all times.
• Ensure your dog(s) is on a fixed lead of no more than two metres in length when off your property.
PC Paul Croft, from the Chippenham Neighbourhood Police Team says: “We have received numerous reports from persons within the area of North End, who expressed concerns regarding the lack of responsibility shown to the dog in question.
“We have been working closely with our partners within Wiltshire Council regarding this matter.
“We hope the further action taken last week reassures residents living in the area, and ensures this dog is receiving the standard of care it deserves.
“We are also investigating offences which may have been committed under the Dangerous Dog Act. These enquiries are ongoing at this stage.
“A Community Protection Warning/Notice can be issued to an individual aged 16 or over, or a body, if satisfied on reasonable grounds that the conduct of the individual or body is having a detrimental effect, of a persistent or continuing nature, on the quality of life of those in the locality or wider community.
“A breach of a CPN can result in the individual being arrested and summonsed to court.”
If anyone who witnesses a breach of the conditions of the CPN should call 101.
