A man has been charged after armed police were sent to a serious assault in Swindon.
Emergency services responded to reports of a violent attack by a suspect brandishing a golf club in the Penhill Drive area on Sunday (1 December).
Firearms officers and a police dog were deployed to an address in Burbage Road at around 2pm.
The victim of the assault, Daniel Mapstone, sustained serious injuries. It’s understood he went to hospital for urgent treatment.
The suspect, Liam Walsh, was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
The 35-year-old, of Burbage Road, has been charged with the offences and is currently in custody.
He is due to appear in the dock at Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning (Tuesday).
