A man has been arrested after a pedestrian was seriously hurt in a ‘deliberate’ road traffic collision in Trowbridge.
Emergency services, including Wiltshire Air Ambulance, were called to the serious incident in Mortimer Street at around 4.45pm yesterday evening (4 March).
The driver of the vehicle left the scene immediately after the incident, but, following detailed enquiries, a man was arrested in the Bath area overnight.
The suspect, 33-year-old man, is being held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is currently in custody at Melksham Police Station.
The victim, a man in his 30s who we believe is known to the driver, suffered a suspected fractured shoulder and facial injuries and is currently being treated at Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Mortimer Street was closed while police carried out investigations and reopened in the early hours of this morning.
Detective Sergeant Martin Emery, from Central CID, said: “We know that there were a number of witnesses to this incident due to the fact that it happened on a busy street during the early evening.
“If you saw something, or if you have dash cam footage which could assist our enquiries, then please get in touch.”
