A man arrested for the ‘attempted kidnap’ of a Chippenham girl has been bailed.
Police held a 52-year-old man in custody after an incident involving a 14-year-old female in Union Road at around 8.15am on Thursday (30 January).
Following questioning, officers have released the suspect on conditional bail while the investigation is ongoing.
In an earlier statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said the girl had reported being approached by a stranger in a car – who repeatedly asked to give her a lift.
Previously, Detective Inspector Penny Andrews said: “We appreciate the significant community impact that these two incidents have had, and we have taken them both incredibly seriously since they were reported.
“I would like to reiterate, however, that they are not thought to be linked.
“A man has now been arrested in connection with the incident in Union Road and will now be questioned.
“Extra patrols continue to be carried out in the area and we remain in close contact with local schools to provide reassurance.
