A man was pulled over by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Police after officers were concerned about his manner of driving, a court heard.
23-year-old Hugh Powell, of Saddleback Road, Ramleaze, Swindon, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court charged with drink driving this afternoon.
MOD officers passing through the Swindon area on 30 December 2020 witnessed a grey BMW swerving across the A419, crown prosecutor Ben Worthington said.
They decided to pull the vehicle over as it was struggling to keep in lane.
Powell was arrested and taken to Gablecross Police Station where he blew an evidential reading of 90 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – 2.5 times over the legal limit of 35.
In mitigation, his advocate said he’d simply made a bad decision due to the lack of public transport being available to return home.
Powell was disqualified from driving for 18 months, which can be reduced by 25 percent if he completes an accredited drink-drive rehabilitation programme at his own cost.
He was also ordered to pay a fine of £850, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge.
