A road in Malmesbury is partially blocked whilst firefighters attend a large blaze.
Fire crews are currently (5.45pm) responding to the incident very close to the town’s new Aldi supermarket in Festival Way.
A witness told Wiltshire 999s that the fire appears to be in the car park, adding that it is possible ‘some storage items leftover from building work’ are alight.
It has since transpired the fire is involving a number of pallets behind the Aldi – on land between the store and Nurden’s Garden Centre.
Flames can be seen from the busy A429, with local residents reporting the smell of smoke wafting their way in the past 15 minutes.
UPDATE 7PM
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “As you may well be aware, We have attended the Nurden’s Garden Centre/Aldi site this evening to a fire in the open.
“The fire, Although large is contained an has competent person on site who is keeping us updated.
“The decision has been made to keep and eye on this across the night rather than tie up resources in trying to extinguish.”
