A major search and rescue operation is currently underway in a bid to locate an 82-year-old missing man from south Wiltshire.
George Bassett has been missing from Nomansland, Salisbury, since around around midday yesterday, Tuesday 18 July, when he was last seen near Nomansland Village Hall.
Now, Wiltshire Police is asking members of the public to check their outbuildings – including garages and sheds – and boundaries of their properties/gardens/land. This is particularly urgently for those who live in the Nomanlands and Landford area.
George is described as a 6-foot tall male of slight build with grey hair. He is wearing blue jeans, black short sleeved top and brown shoes. He wears a brace on his right leg and walks with the aid of crutches.
Wiltshire Police are working alongside volunteers from Wiltshire Search and Rescue, Hampshire Search and Rescue, and Dorset Search and Rescue.
Acting Inspector Russell Griffin said: “Currently, we’re not asking for volunteers to help with the search as we have police officers along with dog support, drones and specialist search teams searching for George.
“Please understand that, although well intentioned, un-directed searches are likely to hamper those officers on the ground.”
If you can help with our enquiries or have any information about George’s whereabouts, please contact Wiltshire Police on 101.
