A major route near Swindon is closed after a ‘significant water leak’.

Cricklade road in Highworth – linking the town with Blunsdon – is likely to remain shut for several hours following the incident this afternoon (Monday).

In a statement, Swindon Borough Council said: “Due to a significant water leak, Cricklade Road in Highworth (Highworth to Blunsdon Rd) is currently closed.

“Thames Water are on site and the road is expected to remain closed until at least the end of the week while they complete repairs

“Access will be maintained to properties located within the closure area and a diversion route is being put in place for all other traffic. Please avoid the area if you can.”
