A major route near Chippenham is closed after a serious road traffic collision.

Emergency services were called to a crash on the A4 New Road at around 6pm this evening (Tuesday).

There is a significant police and ambulance service presence at the incident – which is near the crossroads with Derry Hill and Studley.

The road has been closed in both directions to motorists and pedestrians between the A3102 junction near Calne and the A342 for Old Derry Hill.

Forensic collision investigation work is being carried out at the scene and could take several hours.

Wiltshire Police, in a statement on social media, said: “Please be advised that the A4 near Studley is currently closed between the A3102 junction near Calne and the A342 for Old Derry Hill following a serious road traffic collision.

“The road is likely to be closed for the foreseeable future. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.”
