A main road in Swindon has been closed by police due to a major gas leak.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are currently dealing with a gas leak on Oxford Road, Swindon which will seriously affect traffic in the area.
“Both lanes of the road are closed between the White Hart roundabout and the Nythe Road junction. The footpath over the roundabout is also closed. Pedestrians are also advised to avoid the area.
“The cause of the leak is not yet clear.
“Fire service, gas engineers and our officers are working together to make the area safe. Drivers and pedestrians should avoid the area. We will provide updates when we can.”
