A main road through Chippenham has been closed by police in both directions.
It’s after the force received a report about a large branch threatening to fall from a tree over Hungerdown Lane at around 3pm this afternoon (19 March).
Officers were sent to the scene to assess the risk to the public and immediately closed a single lane.
However, a further assessment was carried out and it was deemed too dangerous to allow any traffic to travel down the road in either direction.
Pedestrians are also being prevented from walking on the pavement near the branch.
The large branch is resting on another branch and could fall to the ground at any moment.
Wiltshire Council is aware of the issue and operatives are expected to deal with the hazard in the coming hours. It’s not clear how long the road will remain closed.
Traffic is being diverted past the scene through Queens Crescent and Southmead.
