The M5 is closed northbound near Bridgewater after a lorry hit an overbridge.
Emergency services, including Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, were called to the road traffic collision at around 6.30am today (Friday).
The driver of the lorry is injured and trapped within the cab – with specialist 999 crews on scene working to rescue them.
It happened at the Park Lane bridge near the Huntsworth Interchange.
The motorway – northbound between junctions 25 (Taunton) and 24 (Bridgwater) – is shut.
In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: “Emergency services are on the scene. One person is reported as injured and trapped in the vehicle.
“Motorists are urged to seek alternative routes.
“Anyone with any dashcam footage which could help enquiries into what happened is asked to call 101 and give log number 145 of 28 June.”
