Loud bangs have sparked an emergency response in Trowbridge tonight.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Shore Place at around 9pm.
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) are also in attendance at the incident. According to their website, more than 88 postcodes beginning with BA are affected by power outages.
The cause of the incident is thought to be a substation fire; local residents say they heard loud ‘explosions’ and saw bright flashes minutes before the fire service arrived.
An alleyway leading to a field on Shore Place has been sealed off with ‘do not cross’ tape.
