Police have launched an investigation following the stabbing of a 27-year-old man in the middle of a Trowbridge road this morning.
The incident happened in Charlotte Square, Trowbridge, early this morning.
Officers received a call shortly after 1am, 10 June 2017, to a report of an assault on a man, which took place in the middle of the road.
The man, a 27-year-old from Trowbridge, sustained a puncture wound to his chest and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.
He is believed to be in a serious condition.
A 36-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the incident and he remains in custody in Melksham at this time.
Detective Constable Keith Harford of Central CID said: “Following the call into our control room reporting this incident, officers carried out some proactive enquiries and were able to locate and arrest a man in relation to the incident within an hour. He remains in custody for questioning.
“The victim has sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated in hospital.
“I would like to reassure the local community that incidents like this are rare here in Trowbridge and we are carrying out a really thorough investigation.
“We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident in Charlotte Square.
