A team of immigration officers have raided two restaurants in Melksham.

Staff visited both Casa Restaurant and Bar on Bank Street and The Granville Chinese Restaurant on Granville Road, yesterday evening (Thursday, 20 October).

The Immigration Enforcement team were ‘acting on intelligence’, but searches of the premises did not reveal any breaches of the law.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “Officers did not encounter anyone who was illegally present, therefore no arrests were made and no Civil Penalty Referral Notices were served.”

The spokesperson continued: “The government is tackling illegal immigration and the harm it causes by removing those with no right to be in the UK.

“We continue to work with law enforcement agencies to tackle illegal migration in all its forms.

“Our Nationality and Borders Act will fix the broken system; making it fair to those in genuine need and firm on those who seek to abuse it.”
