Travellers have left Lydiard Park in a disgusting state following their stay.

Eight caravans pitched up at the Swindon country park on Wednesday 4 May.

Despite Swindon Borough Council ‘monitoring’ the situation and providing them with big bags, the travellers still left the area in an appalling mess when the moved at the weekend.

One local dog walker announced on Facebook that the group left rubbish including a destroyed car, smashed glass and human faeces.

She warned other dog owners to keep their dogs on leads until the clean up is complete.

Another resident said that she witnesses two Chihuahuas kept in a small rat cage in the blazing sun. A later visit revealed the cage burnt on a bonfire, and no sign of the dogs.

It is understood that Wiltshire Police attended the scene yesterday afternoon.
