A woman was rushed to hospital after her horse was struck and killed by a lorry.

The female pedestrian is understood to have been moving three horses from a field when one of them was hit by the vehicle near Lyneham, throwing her down the road.

The horror crash happened on the B4069 close to Dauntsey Lock at around 7.30am today (26 October).

One horse was seriously injured and died a short time after the collision, whilst a second horse suffered minor injuries.

The road was closed in both directions whilst emergency services worked at the scene, including the saddening task of clearing the horse’s remains from the carriageway.

A spokesperson Wiltshire Police said: “At 7.30am this morning (October 26) we were called to a road traffic collision on the B4069 close to Dauntsey Lock.

“It involved a lorry and a pedestrian walking with three horses.

“The female pedestrian has been taken to Great Western Hospital with a suspected shoulder injury.

“Sadly, one of the horses died at the scene.

“Emergency services closed the road for a short time, but it was clear by around 9.30am.”
