Residents have been left horrified after a boy was killed by a ‘delivery driver’ in a quiet cul-de-sac in Wiltshire yesterday evening.

Emergency services responded to a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Oak Close, Tidworth, at around 7.05pm on Wednesday (9 July).

A ten-year-old boy sustained significant injuries after being struck by a van.

Local ambulance crews, alongside critical care medics from Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance and a doctor from SWIFT Medics, battled to save the youngster’s life.

Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wiltshire Police cordoned off the area and swiftly launched a forensic collision investigation.

Specialist teams gathered evidence overnight, with officers deploying a drone to photograph the crash site from above and 3D scanning was carried out on the ground.

The driver of the van, a man aged in his 40s, stopped at the scene. No arrests were made.

The fatal incident happened in a small cul-de-sac off Forest Drive. The road appears to be a car park for nearby homes, surrounded by dense woodland on one side.

“A boy was hit by [a] delivery driver and died”, one local resident told Wiltshire 999s.

Adding: “It’s horrifying, it really is. I can’t believe this has happened in such a quiet road on an estate where nothing really happens.”

Another person, who saw emergency services arriving on scene, said that they “thought it was a murder”.

“There were so many police cars and ambulances it was unreal I genuinely thought something massive happened and now were know it was a poor young chap hit by a car.”

The news comes just days after the death of army sergeant Alex Cairnie, who sparked a major search operation in the Tidworth area – before his body was located near Warren Hill.
