Homes have been evacuated following a mains gas leak in Amesbury.

Emergency services were called to Mill Green Road this afternoon (Monday).

Police have cordoned off the area, putting a 100-metre exclusion zone in place.

Locals are being told to keep their windows and doors shut if they can smell gas.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Millgreen Road in Amesbury has been closed following a gas leak.

“Officers are assisting to evacuate homes within 100 meters as a safety precaution.

“We would advise people to stay away from the area until further notice.”
