A headteacher has spoken out after several pupils were injured in a minibus crash.

The dramatic incident happened on the A350 in Common Ashton, near Trowbridge, at around 6pm yesterday evening (Monday, 13 November).

A car transporter ploughed into the side of Warminster School’s Peugeot Boxer minibus when it pulled out of a junction, causing it to overturn.

A dozen pupils were on board at the time, but managed to escape relatively unharmed. Several children, with minor wounds, were taken to hospital for treatment.

In a statement, school head Matt Williams said: “Yesterday evening one of our minibuses transporting twelve children home from School was involved in a road traffic accident near Ashton Common.

“Two members of staff from Warminster School went straight to the scene and parents of those pupils involved were quickly contacted.

“Our driver and several pupils were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries, whilst others were taken home by their parents.

“We would like to thank the emergency services and all those at Steeple Ashton Village Hall for their support and kindness.”

Steeple Ashton residents Clive and Marian Little were thanked by locals for responding swiftly to the incident, opening the village hall as an area of refuge.

One person said: “Committee members were able to open the village hall as an assessment centre and provide support and refreshments for children and the parents as they arrived as well as many emergency services staff.

“The Village Hall was once again a great resource for which we are so grateful.”
