A gun sighting in Calne sparked a probe – resulting in the arrest two teenage boys.
The youths were detained in Pocket Park in The Pippin on Friday (2 June) after a suspected firearm was seen around the time of what was believed to be a drug deal.
These arrests came after information was passed to local police that a boy had recently been seen brandishing a handgun and exchanging items for cash with a female.
Both boys, aged 15, were held in custody on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply. One of the boys was also arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm.
Following these arrests, two addresses were also searched and an amount of cannabis and cash were located. In one of the addresses, a realistic-looking BB/air gun was located.
Both suspects have since been released under investigation.
Neighbourhood Police Sergeant, Mike Tripp said: “This swift action was taken due to the nature of the concerns raised to us. We would like to pass on our thanks to Calne CCTV for their assistance and helping us make these arrests so quickly.
“Any gun, imitation or BB gun, will always be treated as a real and viable firearm until it is proven otherwise. To brandish an item such as this in a public place where families and children spend their time is not simply not acceptable.
“Drug dealing will also not be tolerated in Calne and officers will be looking to conduct more stop and searches in Calne where the powers and grounds for searches allow.”
