A Green Party peer has suggested all men in Britain should have a 6pm curfew imposed on them to make women feel safer on the streets.
It comes after the tragic death of Sarah Everard, who went missing after leaving a friend’s home in London last week. Police yesterday confirmed human remains were found in woodland.
A serving Metropolitan Police officer is being held on suspicion of her abduction and murder, but they are not believed to be known to each other.
Baroness Jones, of the Green Party, suggested women would feel safer if men were not on the streets from 6pm in the evening.
Speaking in the House of Lords, the 71-year-old mother of two daughters said: “In the week that Sarah Everard was abducted and, we suppose, killed — because remains have been found in a woodland in Kent — I argue that, at the next opportunity for any Bill that is appropriate, I might put in an amendment to create a curfew for men on the streets after 6pm.
“I feel this would make women a lot safer, and discrimination of all kinds would be lessened.”
