Great Western Way is closed after the major route ‘turned into a river’.
It’s understood a burst water main caused deep flooding in the Bridgemead area early this morning (Friday).
The road is shut in both directions between Bruce Street Bridges and The Meads Roundabout.
Mead Way is also closed between Stonehill Green to The Meads Roundabout.
Swindon Bus Company services have been diverted to avoid the incident.
A spokesperson said: “Due to a police road closure the service 1B will not be able to serve Bridgemead Sainsbury’s, Ashington Road and Westlea Fire Station stops, this service will divert via Mannington and Westlea in both directions. Updates to follow, we apologise for the inconvenience.
“Due Great Western Way being closed from Mannington to Bridgemead, service 1/1A are unable to serve Weslea on outbound journeys towards Link Centre and have instead been diverted via Tewkesbury Way and Ashington Way until further notice.”
