Four people were arrested after police stopped a car which raised suspicion in Swindon yesterday afternoon.
At approximately 4.45pm officers in an unmarked police car became suspicious of a BMW, with four occupants, driving along the Great Western Way.
The car was pulled over at the Apple Green Service Station, near the Cockleberry Roundabout, where a large amount of stolen clothing and other household goods were discovered in the vehicle. The items had been taken from a store in Hampshire.
Three men aged 21, 27 and 34 and a 31-year-old woman – all from Newbury – were arrested on suspicion of theft. They remain in custody at Gablecross Police Station this morning.
Further evidence in the car showed that they were planning on heading to a store in Swindon to possibly steal more items, the force said.
Insp Louis McCoy said: “This was a good piece of policing and observation by the officers around the suspicious behaviour of the suspects which caused them to be stopped in their vehicle.
“It is believed that they have committed offences in another force area and owing to our actions, we have prevented further offences.”
