A fleeing suspect has ‘run towards the Queen’s house’ after a crash on the A350.
Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the major road, near Whitehall Garden Centre, at around 11.30pm today (Thursday).
A white Peugeot Master van hit the back of a blue Mini Cooper at the traffic lights, before the male driver of the van legged it towards Reybridge, just outside Lacock.
The tiny village is home to Queen Camilla, who spends a significant amount of time living at her private abode Ray Mill House.
Local officers and a police dog unit were called in to carry out searches of the Reybridge countryside in a bid to locate the suspect.
However, at 12.30pm, they were still no closer to finding the man responsible.
Armed police forced entry to the back of the Master van to ensure nobody was trapped inside before seizing the vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.
In a post on Twitter, traffic cops said they “attended this two vehicle collision on the A350 at Lacock where the van had collided with the rear of the vehicle in front”.
Adding: “Unfortunately, the driver of the van didn’t hang around to speak to us. Our firearms team helped us gain entry to the rear to check no persons trapped.”
Anyone with information, or who knows the location of the suspect, should call 101 quoting log number 82 of today’s date. Call 999 in an emergency.
