Wiltshire 999s can today reveal pictures of the delivery driver’s van that ran over a three-year-old girl in Calne, fatally wounding her.
Emergency services raced to the scene in Campion Close, a cul-de-sac off Foxglove Way, at around midday yesterday, 3 March. A black and grey Mercedes van was involved in the fatal collision.
Despite the efforts of local ambulance crews and critical care medics from Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Great Western Air Ambulance, her life could not be saved.
The van is believed to belong to a Hermes delivery driver. Two parcels, one a Boohoo package, and several blue-coloured ‘sorry we missed you’ cards appeared to lie on the dashboard of the van.
Hermes did not respond to our requests for comment.
Police say the driver remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their investigation into the tragic road traffic collision. No arrests have been made but it is not yet known if a prosecution will follow in the future.
Insp James Brain, from the Chippenham Area Community Policing Team, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the girl’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
“I ask that their privacy is respected and we will also be working with the local community who would have no doubt been impacted by this.
“We understand that people will want to pay their respects and come together at this difficult time, but can we please ensure this is done safely and to keep in mind the current Government guidelines regarding Covid restrictions and maintain social distancing.
“Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is at a very early stage and we won’t be providing any further update at the moment.”
