A Chippenham school has become the first in the county to close due to the coronavirus pandemic.

St Nicholas School in Malmesbury Road will shut its doors to staff and students on Wednesday ‘in order to keep children safe’, a letter sent to parents confirmed today.

In the letter written by headteacher Ros Way, they stated the school took the “difficult decision” to close due to ‘individual personal circumstances of staff’.

The school will be closed for a minimum of two weeks, with it due to reopen after the Easter break.

It’s understood St Nicholas School could operate a ‘staggered return’ if there are to low staffing levels.
