Firefighters attended the Summer Solstice overnight – but not to enjoy the celebrations.

A specialist rope rescue crew based out of Stratton Fire Station were called to the incident near Avebury in the early hours of this morning (21 June).

A man fell down a bank into an empty river, sustained serious injuries.

The casualty, suspected to have broken his ankle, tibia (lower leg) and fibula (lower leg), was rescued from the river by firefighters using rope equipment.

He was rushed to hospital by South Western Ambulance Service – missing the sunrise.
