Firefighters are racing to tackle a huge blaze in the east Wiltshire countryside.
Emergency services were called to the scene of Crowood Lane, between Aldbourne and Ramsbury, at around 2.40pm this afternoon (Wednesday).
Numerous fire crews are now in attendance, working to stop the flames spreading across farmers’ fields. A significant smoke plume can be seen for miles around.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they have five fire engines en route from Marlborough, Swindon, Stratton and Cricklade.
A water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett, a command unit from Gillingham and a small 4×4 appliance from Hungerford have also been tasked.
A fire spokesperson said that firebreaks are being created by the farmer using a cultivator, and firefighters are using a hose reel jet and beaters.
