Firefighters have cut a casualty free from a wreckage following a crash on the M4.
The motorway was brought to a standstill after a two-vehicle road traffic collision between junctions 17 and 16 on Monday (29 December).
The incident involved a red Volvo and a white Suzuki Swift in the Dauntsey area, with one casualty left trapped in the Volvo – which came to rest in lane three.
Two people were rushed to hospital for treatment, according to South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT).
A spokesperson confirmed that two double-crewed land ambulances and an operations officer were sent to the scene at 1.44pm.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said that two fire engines from Chippenham attended the incident shortly after 2pm.
Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to release one person from a vehicle, leaving them in the care of paramedics.
The road was partially blocked until around 4pm, causing major delays for motorists.
