Wiltshire Police has confirmed that a firearm was brandished in a robbery attempt in Swindon.
Officers were called to reports of a small group of youths approaching a man close to Clarence House shortly after 3pm on Friday afternoon (16 September).
The youths attempted to rob the man and are alleged to have threatened him with what is believed to be a firearm. They then fled the scene and the victim was uninjured.
A large-scale police response was mounted, including the use of the police helicopter and armed police officers.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested a short time later in connection with this incident. He was subsequently been released on bail pending further enquiries.
A second 16-year-old boy has been arrested this morning (Saturday, 17 September) and remains in custody for questioning.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Our enquiries are progressing in relation to this incident, including the execution of warrants in Swindon this morning to identify those responsible.
“We would like to reassure our communities in Swindon that there is nothing to suggest any wider risk to the public.
