A fatal crash has sparked a forensic collision investigation on a Wiltshire route.
Police have closed the A4 near Marlborough in both directions after a two-car road traffic collision claimed a life this afternoon (Saturday).
Emergency services were called to the key road between West Overton and Fyfield at around 3.30pm, with Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance scrambled.
Two cars – an SUV and a hatchback – impacted head-on. Despite the best efforts of medics, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have launched a forensic collision investigation, with the A4 expected to remain closed until early on Sunday morning (22 February).
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Please be aware of road closures currently in place on the A4 at Fyfield, Marlborough in both directions following a road traffic collision.
“Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and expect delays in the area. Closures are likely to remain in place for some time.”
While Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service also warned motorists of the closure.
A spokesperson said: “The A4 Bath Road is currently closed in the Fyfield area due to a road traffic collision.
“The road will be closed for a number of hours so please find an alternative route.”
