A person has been struck by a train at Kemble station this afternoon (Sunday).

A significant number of emergency services raced to the incident at around 2pm.

Several ambulances, including Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) from Bristol, police and fire crews were deployed in a bid to save the person.

Despite their efforts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The death was declared non-suspicious, it’s understood.

A spokesperson for Great Western Railway said: “Train services between Swindon and Cheltenham Spa via Gloucester may be cancelled or delayed.

“Due to the Emergency Services dealing with an incident at Kemble Station, the line is currently blocked and we cannot run any trains along this section of track until further notice. We will provide updates as and when we have them.

Police are attending the site, however due to the nature of the incident, we do not have a clear idea of when trains can start running again, but is likely to be at least until 17:30.

“Where possible trains will be diverted, and road transport has been requested to operate along the Stroud Valley line between Gloucester and Swindon, but this has not yet been confirmed.

“Please be aware that due to industrial action taking place today, there are no alternative routes available for customers travelling between Cheltenham Spa, Gloucester and Swindon, so the best advice is to remain at these stations until services start running again.”
