Emergency crews respond to ‘major’ crash on A303 near Amesbury

Emergency crews are currently responding to a ‘major’ crash on the A303.

Police, fire and ambulance were called to the eastbound carriageway near Amesbury shortly before 7pm this evening (Monday).

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance was also tasked, landing close to the scene.

According to locals, a number of vehicles are involving – including an supermarket delivery van. The crash is being described as “major” and “nasty” by witnesses.

The incident occurred on or near the junction for Amesbury Road, which leads to Bulford Camp.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The A303 is currently closed eastbound from Countess roundabout while emergency services deal with a road traffic collision.

“Please avoid the area where possible.”

National Highways has also confirmed the 999 crews are on scene, including an air ambulance.

“The A303 is closed eastbound from the Countess roundabout following an road traffic collision”, Wiltshire Police said in a post on Facebook.

Adding: “We would urge motorists to avoid the area.”
