Drone photos have revealed the scale of a lorry crash in rural Wiltshire.
Emergency services were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A346 north of Burbage, near Marlborough, shortly before 1am this morning (Saturday).
A articulated lorry, owned by Spanish logistics firm PrimaFrio, careered off the carriageway and came to rest in the Kennet and Avon Canal – which has now been closed to boats.
Despite the dramatic incident, the driver is believed to have exited the tractor unit unharmed, but efforts to recover the vehicle could take a significant amount of time.
Our drone photos have captured the scale of the crash, showing exactly where the lorry left the road and where it’s positioned on in the waterway.
The lorry narrowly avoided the train line, which runs parallel with the canal. Train services through the area are running as usual, with no delays.
Wiltshire Police is warning motorists to avoid the A346 for the foreseeable future.
A spokesperson said: “Drivers please be aware that the A346 north of Burbage is currently closed after a lorry left the carriageway and entered the canal in the early hours of this morning.
“There are not thought to be any injuries but a lengthy recovery operation is now underway. Please find alternate routes.”
In a statement, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The A346 is closed due to an incident at Burbage in Wiltshire.
“The road is closed between Marlborough and Burbage and will be for a prolonged period of time so please find an alternative route.”
