Drone photos have captured the scale of a huge fire in Devizes town centre.
Emergency services responded to reports of a blaze at The Kebab House in Northgate Street shortly before 3am this morning (Tuesday).
Seven fire crews – from Devizes, Calne, Trowbridge and Chippenham – were sent to the incident, where they found the mid-terraced property well alight.
An aerial ladder platform (ALP) appliance from Swindon and a support appliance from Salisbury were also tasked.
“The fire has spread throughout the whole premises, including a takeaway restaurant, and into the roof spaces of the neighbouring properties”, a Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
They confirmed that all affected buildings were evacuated and nobody is believed to have been injured.
At the time of publishing, four fire crews – from Westbury, Corsham, Swindon and Ludgershall – remained on scene alongside the ALP and support appliance.
It’s understood efforts are ongoing to dampen down the properties and check for fire spread.
The spokesperson added: “Northgate Street is closed between New Park Street and Market Place, and is likely to stay closed for some hours.
“Where and how the fire started will be subject to a fire investigation in due course.”
In a statement, Wiltshire Police said: “Fire have been dealing with a blaze in Northgate St since the early hours of this morning.
“Whilst buildings have been damaged, thankfully no one has been hurt.
“As a result, access to the Market Place is currently closed from all directions. There is a closure at the Wadworth roundabout and one at the top of Long St (junction of Bridewell St).
“We do not currently know how long it will remain closed but we expect it to be for most of the day.”
