Driver tries to flee crash in damaged BMW but ditched it when wheel fell off

Police in central Swindon are searching for the driver of a car involved in a crash this evening.

The driver attempted to leave the scene of the road traffic collision in Cricklade Road in a severely damaged blue BMW, but only made it 150 metres across Transfer Bridges to Ocotal Way before ditching the car and fleeing on foot.

Two occupants of the other vehicle involved, a black Honda Civic, were uninjured remained at the scene at the Beatrice Street junction following the incident at around 7pm.

Officers launched a manhunt for the suspect, and called in support from dog and drone units.
