A van’s wiped out a lamppost in Swindon town centre tonight.
Police were called to the incident outside the Greek Olive on Faringdon Road at around 10pm today, where they discovered that the driver of the vehicle had fled the scene.
A Tri-Force Dog Unit was called to the area to conduct a search for the suspect.
Officers remained at the scene until 11.30pm, while the wreckage was recovered.
Swindon Borough Council are at the incident, assessing the damage to the lamppost.
It’s not clear whether the suspect, who was seen running from the vehicle, as been found.
We’ve approached Wiltshire Police for comment – an update is expected on Monday.
