A driver who fled the scene of a crash in Wiltshire village sparked a late-night manhunt.

Police rushed to reports of a red Audi ploughing into a wall and tree in Charlton, near Malmesbury, at around 10.45pm last night (Friday, 24 September).

Park Street was closed to motorists whilst officers investigated the empty vehicle and carried out an extensive area search.

A dog unit and a specially-trained police drone pilot both attended the incident in order to try and locate the suspect.

“Searches of the vehicle, and of the local area were conducted but nobody was located”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.

They added: “Enquiries are ongoing.”
